INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Ferd Terado is a Certified Professional Instructor [Guro] in the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali System and is the founder of Hastartes Tactical. He is a direct student of Tuhon Tim Waid, Master Instructor and President of PTK-SMF. As a member of the CPI Program, Ferd established the affiliate group PTK-SMF Peninsula in Foster city, CA and the Pekiti-Tirsia Kali [Kidlat] training group in San Diego, CA. He currently resides and teaches in Eugene, OR.
MARTIAL ART BACKGROUND
Ferd began his martial arts education at 17 years old in Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate. He later trained d in other martial systems such as Hung Gar Gung-Fu, Muay Thai, and Capoeira just to name a few.
After moving to the Bay Area, he trained briefly in Jeet Kune Do and Inosanto/Lacoste Kali before training exclusively in Pekiti-Tirsia Kali. His initial introduction to PTK was through the Tri-V Method but had since converted to the Doce Methodos System under his primary teacher, Tuhon Tim Waid of PTK-SMF.
TIP OF THE SPEAR
Guro Ferd was undeniably the most prominent member of Tuhon Tim Waid's cadre of PTK-SMF instructors and is responsible for the strong and unified presence of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali and PTK-SMF in the San Francisco Bay from 2010 until 2018. Known for his signature mohawk and tactical kilt, Guro Ferd has always been at the forefront when it came to promoting PTK-SMF and the Authentic Pekiti-Tirsia Kali System. He first made his mark in the Bay Area by actively engaging and interfacing with the FMA community by participating in different events, teaching workshops, as well as conducting his own training workshops and open invitational sparring events called Magkatipunan, which many local fighters representing notable FMA styles such as Bahala Na Multi-Style Escrima (Stockton), Lameco Astig, Angel's Disciples Escrima Association, Inosanto-Lacoste Kali, etc. enjoyed participating in. He continues this tradition by establishing the Hastiludia: Oregon State Martial Gathering in Eugene, OR.
Guro Ferd is regularly invited to be a presenter and guest instructor in various martial arts events such as Legacy: Honoring the Grandmasters, SoCal Swordfight, The Oregon Knife Collectors Association (OKCA) and Oregon State Hanmadang. In 2016, he helped establish PTK-SMF Ukraine after being invited to teach a 5-Day seminar in Chernihiv, Ukraine. As a result of his dedication, Ferd developed a reputation for being the most receptive and publicly proactive of PTK-SMF instructors.
Guro Ferd is the only known PTK-SMF instructor, who visibly spars outside the confines of his organization against various weapon-based martial disciplines such as Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and other FMA styles. The history is there supported by numerous video examples on his YouTube channel. His efforts and contributions are unsurpassed by the current PTK-SMF instructor roster.
SIC PARVIS MAGNA
As of March 2024 Guro Ferd is no longer an official representative of PTK-SMF; after 14 years of loyal service, the organization removed Guro Ferd from its Certified Instructors roster upon terminating his membership. Despite these decisions, Guro Ferd is forever thankful for the opportunity to have trained directly with Tuhon Tim Waid and to have served PTK-SMF to the best of his abilities. Now he and his Hastartes Legionnarii march on untethered by any institution.

Guro Ferd adopted this motto for The Hastartes as a reminder that we all start small but our journeys can lead to bigger and better things.
